Meet Carla Salmon

Carla Salmon is an author, teacher and marketing professional who loves living in Brisbane.

For ten years, Carla has worked with kids in secondary schools, teaching storytelling in all of its wonderful forms as an English, History and Drama teacher. She’s all about creating dynamic learning experiences and guiding lifelong learners to develop powerful communication skills because they want to.

Before Carla was in classrooms, she was a communications professional in public relations and marketing. With a Journalism degree, a UK work visa, and a backpack, she travelled to London at 19 years of age. Joining CAMRON GLOBAL, she learned how to run public relations campaigns for international brands and navigate Covent Garden’s cobblestones in heels.

But she missed the sun and surf, returning to Australia’s Gold Coast and Bond University as a Manager of International Programs. Working with all faculties, Carla developed partnerships with universities in Asia and Latin America, travelling regularly to meet students and their families. It was this position that inspired Carla to return to university and pursue a career as an educator.

Now, she is thrilled to combine her experience in communication and education industries as an author, driven to share her passion for great story telling with young readers and writers. Her debut Young Adult Mystery We Saw What You Started is inspired by her country coastal childhood, where sports ruled and beach campsites were paradise. Relatable characters with heart, humour and action-packed lives navigate her stories, much like the students in her classrooms today.

When Carla’s not at school talking books with teachers and librarians, she loves following her husband and two teenage children on sun seeking adventures.
