‘I’m done, Miss!’

How often do we hear that as teachers? And often, students really think that they are done because the words are on the pages, they’ve followed the instructions and put in a decent effort.

The criteria is complex and isn’t super easy to apply to your own work, especially for younger years.

But a simple, honest, ‘Mark out of 10’ for a paragraph - compared to other paragraphs? They can do that. Their favourite paragraphs in a short story become clear. And their least favourite? They’re the paragraphs that need the work.
